The Future of UC Retirement Benefits

UC could really use some people who can write with clarity and accuracy. Does bullet point #1 mean that person becomes eligible at the point of hire or after one year?

I agree with the clarity point. An answer to the question above would be much appreciated.

what kind of UCRP benefits will some one receive if you worked 1000
hours in a limited appointment ?

I have been looking into this seeing as I am close to vesting my retirement, were it not for this 1000 hour rule. What it means is if you are working full time, the first 6 months of your employment you are contributing to the pension scheme, but not eligible to join it. Once you hit the 1000 hrs, you are joined – but only from then on. So the first 1000 hrs is just contributing to everyone else’s pension. The best part is, if you work 50% of the time and take the enforced holidays, you will never get 1000 hours in a 365 day period, so will continue to contribute to pensions, but never be eligible yourself. Oh and… you can’t opt out of contributing.

Your interpretation of the 1000-hour rule is not accurate. The 1000-hour rule applies to employees who are hired into positions that are not eligible for UCRP and gives them a way to become members. Only employees who are members of UCRP contribute to the pension plan.
